What’s on your list?

Currently listening to Vado ft. Dave East “Da Hated”

Music is everything to me.

My Current pride and joy is my record collection that I got from my Great Grand.

She wasn’t a collector, unfortunately, to like keep the pockets or what not.

Nah, she was a groover. She’s been listening to these records since the 50’s and beyond and a lot of them actually still play. I have the original record of the Temptations album with “My Girl” on it. As well as earlier works of Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding. WILSON PICKETT!!!!

SAM & DAVE!!!! Like listening to my records takes me back to her old house on Linwood aka “THE WHITE HOUSE”.

And just the whole vibe. Now granted, I’d hated having to go over there because I was such a “Mother Dears” girl lol, but once at Great Grands we’d watch “I love Lucy” after the “Price is Right”. Eat Corn Flakes with as much sugar you wanted.

Watch Great Grand cook, clean as she went, and make coffee.

Papa reading the paper and listening to the news.

We’d hit Piggly Wiggly. (Store has literally never changed lol. Got to be on the same voltage or their preference of lighting is dim bulbs.)

Tony’s liquors. Back home.

About two beer can pops later, here came out the records.

And y’all know I love to perform! Me and Dai! Or Papa and Dai would steal the show! Especially when they’d do Otis Redding and Carla Thomas’s hit, “Tramp.”

Great Grand would be in tears laughing. And they’d do it on repeat lol.

We loved when Papa would whistle the end of “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.”

Dai could keep up. I STILL can not whistle. Smh

Music brings back so many memories. Good & Bad. I want to hold on to them all. For remembrance and reflection/growth.

Appreciate your past before it becomes fading memories. Learn from it, grow from it, and regain power from the painful things we encounter.

Never hold it in or attempt to forget it for your strength lies there. Ya got to go through it when you’re ready of course.
